What to Expect
What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?
Acupuncture uses whisker thin, flexible needles that you will hardly feel when inserted. The feeling is nothing like having an injection by your doctor. Approximately 20 acupuncture needles fit into the end of a doctors hypodermic needle!
After an acupuncture needle is inserted, it is gently stimulated which results in a unique sensation that is often described as an “energetic feeling”. Patients describe the sensation as a connection of energy to the needle. You may also feel a slight ache or an “electrical” sensation travelling from the area of the needle.
Most patients find these acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling relaxed both mentally and physically.
Acupuncture treatment creates deep relaxation in both body and mind.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments needed will of course vary greatly depending on the nature of your condition. Each patient seeks treatment for different reasons, but it is generally recommended that you start with weekly appointments for approximately 4 – 6 weeks.
The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative, so more than one treatment is necessary. When the body heals the treatments can be reduced in frequency.
Preventative treatments and treatments for general well-being may also be scheduled.
